In this intermediate salsa dance video lesson of Addicted2Salsa, we go back to the basics to help you learn how to do a 180° Cross Body Lead with a Turn (*a few others call this the Coca Cola move). We first start off refreshing you what a Cross Body Lead with a Turn looks like and from there add-on the extra dance steps required to do a half-revolution. Getting the 180 degree cross body lead will help build the salsa framework for you to execute the 360 cross body lead – which will show you in a future episode.

I feel like I get the footwork, but i can’t lead it for crap. I seem to lose the lead unless I fully detail what the follow has to do beforehand, and even then, it doesn’t feel as fluid as you guys look.

Great lesson, finally a good tutorial on the c.b.l. with 180 turn. One recommendation though- please give a little more detail on the follow’s part. She does not go back on 1 like normal, but instead rotates 180. There’s something new there for the follow that could do with some more explanation. I was trying to teach my wife and could use some more help there. Otherwise, great job!

would you call it a cross body lead plus 360? I felt like I have learned this whole thing in two parts, the first one was the simple cross body lead followed by a 360 degrees with a leg hook.

    Stepping forward …
Stepping forward with your left foot on2 is Puerto Rican style – which it called ‘Dancing on Men’s Timing’. In NY style, (as politeness to our ladies), men start back with the right on count 2 (called “Ladie’s Timing”). Note that the steps are exactly the same – it is just a matter on how you start. Either timing is interchangeable.

  • apersaud says:

    We exaggerate the …
We exaggerate the moves so they are clearer for people watching the videos on what we are doing (bigger steps, slower movements, highly extended arms). For more information on how the supplemental video instruction differs from proper social dancing – visit our website. Thanks! :-)

  • apersaud says:

    We dance the …
We dance the introduction of the video in On2 timing (Eddie Torres / NY Style), we explain the move in On1 timing and do it at the very end again for the On2 counts.

Please note that the cross-body leads are happening on count 2, which is a clear indication we are dancing On2 (clave). When dancing On1, the cross-body lead happens on count 5.

    @jayroo10
what you mean is on2 “palladium style” also known as “power on 2″. Anthony and Julie are dancing to the on2 “mambo-tipico”. Both are breaking on2. Breaking means the direction changes. The main difference is the “pause”. “Power on2″ starts with left foot forward. The counts are breaking on2,3,4,pause,breaking on 6,7,8,pause. Nice to dance because you can feel the conga (”bum bum”) better. This on2 starts with left foot backward on1,breaking on2,3,pause,5,breaking on 6,7,pause. cheers

Hi Anthony. Thanks again for a great move. Just one pointer: it would be useful if you explained the guy’s lead a bit more, in particular the left arm’s involvment in initiating the lady’s turn.

    so this is the …
so this is the correct way to dance on2? I see many people that dance on2 stepping forward with their left foot on2 beat, and on3 step on the spot, and bring the left foot back on4, then pause on 5, and step back with the right on6, so this is the incorrect way to dance on2??? hey when u say break on 4, do u mean pause on 4 without stepping correct?? thanks for this

  • Miamiguy117 says:

    On2 has a different …
On2 has a different step pattern than On1.
Here’s how it goes. You still start moving your feet “On the 1 beat,”, but your left foot goes back on one. This is hard to write, but I’ll try my best.
on 1 count, your left foot goes back, on the 2 count, your right foot goes back, then on the 3 beat, ur left foot stays steps in place, (break on 4) on the 5 beat ur right foot goes forward past ur left foot, on 6 ur left foot steps forward past your right foot, then on 7 your right foot steps in place
